How to Share Your Faith (Lost and Found)

  • Jesus’ last command is our first priority—to go into all the world and preach the gospel, and to make disciples of the nations.
  • I want to share seven thoughts with you to help you reach the lost in your world.
The Commission (Scriptures: Romans 10:9–10, Romans 10:14, 2 Corinthians 5:17–21)
  • God has given us this task of reconciling people to Him. He’s given us this wonderful message of reconciliation, and He’s made us ambassadors to a lost and dying world.
  • If you’re going to go fishing, you’ve got to get to the water where the fish are. That certainly means to go to the nations, but it also means to go to the extent of your own personal world of family, friends, your workplace, your hobbies…
  • The fact is, “going” is very rarely convenient, and very rarely does it line up with our daily plans. Our flesh recoils against it. We don’t like being taken out of our comfort zone.
  • Yet people are worth it.
  • Some think, ‘I’ll just pray that God will save people.’
  • Prayer is important. But once you’ve talked to God about men, you must go talk to men about God.
  • There is a divine partnership God has arranged between us and the Holy Spirit. We share, and then He uses our words to convict and convince people about their need of a Savior. We must give Him something to work with.
  • Words are like seeds. If we want to have a harvest, we have to plant some seeds.
  • The power is not in your eloquent presentation. The power is in the seed. The seed is supernatural. The seed has the life of God in it.
Compassion (Scriptures: Romans 5:5)
  • A big part of compassion for the lost is remembering that we were once lost ourselves.
  • The love of God has been poured out into our hearts already by the Holy Spirit. His love is in there, and it’s looking for some means to be expressed.
  • Revisit your own salvation experience and remember the great mercy God has had on you and how He has so liberally rescued you.
Common Ground (Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 9:19–23 TLB)
  • We need to look for common ground to establish a beachhead through which we can bring the gospel into people’s lives.
Character (Scriptures: Philippians 1:27 ERV)
  • It’s not just what we say; it’s also how we conduct our lives.
  • Be sure that you live in such a way that honors the good news you are sharing.
  • May your lifestyle weigh as much as the gospel you preach.
  • The thing that gives weight to our words when we share is when we live a life that is consistent with the gospel we preach.
  • None of us are perfect, but we do need to be living the truth. We can’t live lazy, sloppy, sinful lives and expect our words to have weight when we share the gospel of Christ.
Counsel of God’s Word (Scriptures: Acts 20:27, 1 Thessalonians 2:13)
  • There is power in the Word of God.
  • People’s faith needs to be anchored in God’s Word, not just some experience or goosebumps. They need to know that they’re trusting because God said something in the Bible.
  • Every believer should be familiar with salvation scriptures enough to share them.
Community (Scriptures: Mark 9:50, John 13:34–35, Romans 12:10, Romans 14:19, Romans 15:17, Romans 15:14, Romans 16:16, 1 Corinthians 11:33, 1 Corinthians 12:25, Galatians 5:13, Ephesians 4:2, Ephesians 4:25, Ephesians 5:19, Ephesians 5:21, 1 Thessalonians 4:8, Hebrews 3:13, Hebrews 10:24, Hebrews 10:25, James 5:16, 1 Peter 3:8, 1 Peter 4:9, 1 Peter 4:10, 1 John 1:7)
  • Once a person accepts Christ, God leads them to be part of a believing community.
  • Discipleship can never reach maturity outside of community.
  • The enemy wants to separate us from the herd, get us isolated, and get us out of the believing community. We need to stay connected, and not just for safety’s sake but also in order to grow.
  • Once a person gets saved, they should never have to do life alone.
Coming Reward (Scriptures: Proverbs 11:30, Daniel 12:3, 1 Peter 5:4)
  • In eternity, there are going to be varying degrees of glory, in part determined by how busy we were about the Master’s business.
  • Souls are the most precious thing on the Father’s heart. So God will reward every effort to reach and to win the lost.
  • We need to do all we can while we can to reach everyone we can by any means we can.
  • This life, as grand and glorious as it is, is just a blip on the screen. It’s a vapor that appears for a little time and then it vanishes away. Then we step into eternity and receive rewards. Let’s make the most of our opportunities to share the gospel.

How to Share Your Faith | Part 1

Jesus gave us, His church, a final commandment: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature, and make disciples of all nations.”

Jesus’ last command should be our first priority, since reaching and impacting the lost is the most precious thing to the Father’s heart.

We need to do all we can while we can to reach everyone we can by any means we can. But how? In this 2-message series, Bayless wants to help you reach the lost in your world through your words, actions, character, and lifestyle.
